Cover: 9
Geordies out of 10
It's a cartoon cover that's supposed to look like a movie poster. It
has The Wildhearts on motorcycles as spaceships and a giant woman chase
them. It has the CD credits underneath like movie credits and it stands
out nicely. Very well done.
Booklet:
8 Geordies out of 10.
For once, The Wildhearts included lyrics! For each song, it has pictures
and captions which sum up what the song is about. There are also credits
and thanks and some thought was put into this.
Songs: 10
Geordies out of 10.
With each Wildhearts CD, you kinda know what you're going to get. Good
riffs and catchy hooks and this CD holds true to form. You have your
heavy, balls out songs like "Get Your Groove On," and "Nexus
Icon" and then you have your pop rock songs like "Only Love,
"Someone That Won't Let Me Go," and "One Love, One Life,
One Girl." There aren't as many tempo changes, left turns, or 11
minutes songs like past Wildhearts releases, but Ginger said he wanted
it that way. I guess you could say there is more songwriting on this
CD and it's easier to digest. It's more straight ahead, catchy guitar
rock. Other songs I enjoy include, but are not limited to, "There's
Only One Hell," "So Into You," and the first single,
"Vanilla Radio." The Darkness' Justin Hawkins provides backups
on "Get Your Groove On" as well.
Comments: It's good to see The
Wildhearts get a US release for this CD, which was originally released
last year in Europe and Japan. It should be available everywhere since
it's released on Sanctuary Records. One of the few bands where I basically
dig everything they put out.
