IMPLOUS "Hellucinate"
by Clifford "Junior" Newsted

Cover: 8 Death Metal Growls out of 10
The cover features a guy in a jumpsuit, with syringes for fingers, like a Freddy Krueger & Edward Scissor hands. He’s pointing the needles at his head & he appears to be in pain. Imagine that? The band’s logo is featured on the top left hand corner in white print with the logo directly underneath in orange. This a very original look cover & you can’t mistake it for anything out there right now.

Booklet: 7 Songs with the words Death & God in them out of 10
The booklet is complete it has the lyrics, pictures of the band members, with one huge band shot in the middle of the booklet. Like most of Metal Blade’s packaging, it’s done by an indie label with a major mentality.

Songs: 8 Head Banging Rivet Heads out of 10
Not since In Flames or Arch Enemy has a band demanded my complete & undivided attention. This is one heavy band, they have unforgettable riffs, a strong rythm section & a remarkable singer, that adds a touch of hard core to his growl. Implous has bite & not for the frail. Let me explain what I mean. Imagine, getting into an industrial dyer, like at your laundromat & hurling 6 sledge hammers in there with you. Next set it for 39 minutes & wait. That how I felt after listening to this record .

Comments: One of few “death metal”bands that has caught my attention. I’m not an authority on the genre, but I do know very few do this style of metal correctly. There’s enough elements from other genres that it makes,a band like this more accessible & therefore, more appealing to fans outside of the death metal realm. Take a chance & pick “Hellucinate” up.
