BLACK LABEL SOCIETY "1919 Eternal"
by Jani Bon Neil

Cover: 5 out of 10
The cover shows the Black Label Society skull in the sky with a bunch of planes, tanks, and marching soliders. It sets the theme for the CD.

Booklet: 6 out of 10
Lyrics, credits, thanks, and a message to Zakk's dad along with of photo of him. Less frills than previous BLS booklets and no profanity to be found anywhere.

Songs: 8 out of 10
With song titles such as "Bleed For Me," "Lords Of Destruction," "Battering Ram," "Graveyard Disciples," "Genocide Junkies," "Mass Murder Machine," and "Berserkers" you can see the general theme here......it's all ballads! Just seeing if you're paying attention. In typical Black Label Society fashion, these are brutal riffs and brutal music which is perfect for going on a killing spree. Most of the CD can be called a tribute to World War II and Zakk's dad, who was born in 1919, thus the title of the CD. My favorite track on the CD is "Demise Of Sanity" which is a full throttle assualt on the auditory senses!
I think I got that last line from a Paul Gargano review. For some reason I had that line in my head so I'll blame him for that. He writes that kind of stuff.
Back to the review. Zakk is still a better guitar player than he is a singer, but his voice is good enough for these songs. If you've heard his last two BLS studio CDs, then you know what to expect here. I still think I might like the first two a bit better, but this beats most stuff that is out. The fact that Spitfire sent us some for free makes me like it even better!

Comments: Most of the music here was created for Ozzy and it would have been very interesting to hear Ozzy sing on this stuff. It certainly would have been better than the "Back To Earth" CD. This is also the first BLS CD with no swearing, so that's a let down. The last CD has plenty of fucks and even a cunt or two, so it's hard to follow that up.
