SLIK TOXIK "Doin' The Nasty" (1991)
by Dana Brittingham

Cover: 10 Chicks Puking out of 10.
The cover has a picture of a chick bowing to the porcelain god in a nasty public restroom! How cool is that? Well, at least I think it's a chick. For the sake of argument, let's just assume it is, shall we?

Booklet: 9 Chicks Puking out of 10.
This has full-color band photos, lyrics, thank-you notes, production credits, and a parental advisory stamp. Everything you'd expect in a CD booklet - surprising, considering this was issued on Capitol Records.

Songs: 7 Chicks Puking out of 10.
Starting with the opener entitled "Big Fuckin' Deal" and cascading through a mix of dirty yet melodic metal and bluesy rockers, these songs aren't half bad. Players are good even if somewhat workman-like at times. One of the songs even mentions something about "sleeping on the wet spot" which equals major brownie points in Slik Toxik's favor. The rating would be a bit higher though if it weren't for the faggy power-ballad "By The Fireside," which is fucking gay.

Comments: Though formed in the late 80s, Slik Toxik were still very young cats when this album came out. Unfortunately for them, they missed the boat by a few years. It's easy to draw comparisons between vocalist Nick Walsh and Sebastian Bach. Their voices, range, and intonation sound frighteningly similar in most instances. Makes me wonder if Skid Row ever considered Walsh as Baz's replacement. But maybe Snake and Rachel didn't want to have to deal with another Canadian, which is understandable.
