Jack Russell gets rejected by the Station Fire Memorial Foundation after planning benefit show in Los Angeles

This past Tuesday, January 15, 2013, I announced that I would be performing a benefit concert for the Station Fire Memorial Foundation on February 7, 2013 at Saint Rocke in Hermosa Beach, CA. The performance was intended to acknowledge and extend my continual condolences to all affected by the Station Night Club fire which occurred on February 20, 2003. While closely approaching the ten year mark of this tragic event, the empathic concern and compassion I feel for the victims and their loved ones has not lessened in the least.
To my discouragement, I was informed by my manager on Wednesday, January 16, 2013 that written correspondence was received from the Vice President of the Station Fire Memorial Foundation stating:
“We do not want our name associated with ANYTHING Jack Russell or his band does.”
“This is to respect the wishes of the families and survivors who do not wish to have any association with Jack or his Great White.”
“We do not want any donations or proceeds from anything he does.”
With respect to both the direct wishes of the Station Fire Memorial Fund and the indirect wishes of the families and survivors who do not wish to have any association with my present or future philanthropic endeavors, I will honor the cease and desist request received by my management.
With absolute disassociation from the Station Fire Memorial Fund, I will be performing at Saint Rocke in Hermosa Beach, CA on February 7, 2013. The proceeds raised from the performance will be donated to a completely different charitable organization to be determined shortly. I am utterly saddened by the response of the foundation and the motives behind it. Nethertheless, we will put on a great show for a worthy cause.
My heart still aches for all the families and friends of the victims whose lives will forever be changed due to this terrible tragedy. I too lost many friends that night but I cannot begin to equate that to the loss of a family member. For what it's worth, you all have been in my prayers and always will be.
