SEATTLE – It was a big celebration Friday for Motley Crue, as Nikki Sixx was back in his hometown for a soldout concert with Poison before a raucous crowd of thrilled spectators at the Tacoma Dome.

Both bands were great, and afterward, Vince Neil hosted a big party at Backstage Bar & Grill a few miles down the road, and there a massive throng of fans and groupies who posed with the great Motley Crue singer for pictures and autographs.

While all this was going down, Prophets of Addiction, a top Seattle band featuring former Pretty Boy Floyd bassist Lesli Sanders as the lead singer, took advantage by playing before a crowd of more than 1,000 – hard to do for an unsigned club band, and Sanders did a fine job keeping the celebration going.

On stage at the Tacoma Dome, Sixx took the microphone and told everyone about the time he was kicked out of high school in Seattle for selling drugs: “What was wrong with that? After all, this is America!” Sixx shouted, and the crowd ate it up.

Before Poison’s set, drummer Rikki Rockett performed a touching act by spray painting “Jani Lane” on the front of his two big drum heads. I have to admit, the band performed much better than the last time I saw them at Hollywood Bowl.

Everyone was going crazy during Poison’s set that featured their hit songs like “Talk Dirty To Me,” “Unskinny Bop” and of course “Every Rose Has Its Thorn.”

Once Motley took the stage, the place went even more nuts. Neil sang well, and he was smiling and energetic. Mick Mars, though he looks so frail, did not miss a note. Tommy Lee was bashing away for all he was worth. And, of course, Nikki Sixx was Nikki Sixx. He is a rock god, and he can do no wrong.
