Metal Sludge — In a brand new interview on the This, That And The Other radio show and podcast with host Troy Patrick Farrell, former BulletBoys guitarist Mick Sweda explains why it’s over.

Sweda spent an hour giving Farrell the good, the bad and even the ugly about why it didn’t work for the BulletBoys all original line-up to keep it together.

The band reunited in late 2019 and soon after on December 30th 2019 played a packed comeback show on the Sunset Strip at the world famous Whisky-A-Go-Go.

But soon after in early 2020, the dreaded Covid virus set in which put a hold on everyone’s plan.

It’s pretty safe to say, that the pandemic affected everything, including the chance for BulletBoys to get out there, play live, tour and make a solid go of it.

But it’s been a few years now, and only a few shows have been performed with Sweda, vocalist Marq Torien, Lonnie Vencent (bass) and Jimmy D’Anda (drums).

Now just as the new year has kicked off, Sweda went live on his own Facebook on January 2nd, to tell the world that the reunion is over.

Sweda explained that D’Anda was already on his way out, late last year, but there wasn’t any official statement until now.

With that Facebook live, the subject caught the eye of fans and the industry as well, and Farrell had Sweda on TT&T on January 5th to shed some more light.

We have added some cliff notes below, as supplied by TT&T.

This, That And The Other – cliff-notes of the show with Mick Sweda

* HAD HOPED FOR MORE SHOWS

* THE FINAL WHISKY SHOW THAT ENDED UP NOT HAPPENING WAS A SHOW THAT MICK HAD HOPED TO PULL THE BAND TOGETHER SINCE 2021 WAS DISMAL FOR TOURING

* THE MANAGER (LARRY MORAND – MONSTERS OF ROCK CRUISE ORGANIZER) AND DRUMMER JIMMY D’ANDA WERE ALREADY PUTTING IN THEIR NOTICE

* DECISION WAS MADE FOR MICK SWEDA SINCE MANAGEMENT AND DRUMMER WERE TO LEAVE AFTER THE FAILED WHISKY SHOW DEC 16TH

* SOMEONE (LONNIE VENCENT) DIDN’T MAKE A FLIGHT AND “COULDN’T MAKE THE GIG”

* MICK FELT TENTATIVE KNOWING THE HISTORY BUT HAS ALWAYS TRIED TO PUT DIFFERENCES ASIDE FOR THE SAKE OF THE MUSIC

* MICK SAYS THE BAND FEELS LIKE A DRUG “THE WARM CARESS OF FAMILIARITY” “EXTREMELY ADDICTIVE”, “EVERYTHING IS GREAT IN THE ROOM OR ON STAGE” BUT WHEN THE BAND MEMBERS GO THEIR OWN WAY (AFTER A SHOW), IT’S LIKE “THE ORB OF CONFUSION”

* CAN’T EXPLAIN THE DIFFERENCES OFF THE STAGE BUT MANY VOICES WHISPERING IN THE EAR’S OF OTHERS

* IT ALL (THEN) JUST STARTS MANIFESTING WITH DISTRUST

* THERE THEN COMES THE TIME WHEN THINGS BECOME “TOXIC AND POISONOUS AND NOBODY NEEDS THAT AT OUR AGE”

* THERE WAS NO CONVERSATION WITH MARQ TORIEN (AND THAT IT HAD ALREADY PLAYED OUT) AND SAYS MARQ IS ALREADY LOOKING FOR REPLACEMENTS TO HONOR THE SHOWS BOOKED.

* MICK IS ANNOUNCING THIS TO AVOID CONFUSION AND LET FANS KNOW DESPITE ADVERTISING, HE AND JIMMY D’ANDA WILL NOT BE PERFORMING THE SHOWS

* MICK HAD NO STAKE IN THE NAME (SINCE A SETTLEMENT IN 1993).
SEEMS TO THINK THERE COULD BE ISSUES WITH “CONTROL OF THE NAME” “BULLETBOYS”

* MICK IS BUMMED OUT ABOUT THE DEMISE OF THE BAND, ALWAYS PUT THE BAND FIRST, A GOOD SOLDIER AND TEAM PLAYER. “I CAN SLEEP AT NIGHT”

* (BULLETBOYS) “FELL SHORT OF EXPECTATIONS”

* WE DISCUSS “THE HOT SUMMERS” NEW MUSIC WITH SINGER SHANE TASSART (LIES DECEIT AND TREACHERY) SELF RELEASING MATERIAL SOMETIME IN 2022, IT’S “STILL IN SESSION MODE”.

* WE DISCUSS “EASTON ROCKET” (MICK’S SON) AND HIS PART IN THE SOAP “GENERAL HOSPITAL” AS AN AUTISTIC CHARACTER WHO IS “ON THE SPECTRUM” IN REAL LIFE.

* MICK WAS DISAPPOINTED THAT BULLETBOYS SPLIT BECAUSE HE HAD HOPED TO USE IT AS A VEHICLE FOR AUTISM AWARENESS.

* MICK AND JIMMY D’ANDA ARE “ON GREAT TERMS”

* REGARDING THE BULLETBOYS AND ANY CHANCE OF PLAYING AGAIN “THE DOOR IS COMPLETELY COVERED IN KRYPTONITE, NO ONE IS GOING NEAR THAT”

* WE CLOSE WITH SOCIAL MEDIA INFO AND A BIT OF HOCKEY TALK.
